Biofeedback for Pelvic Floor

Relieve Pelvic Floor Issues with Biofeedback Therapy

Pelvic floor dysfunction can be painful, isolating, and disruptive — but it doesn’t have to be permanent. Pelvic floor biofeedback therapy offers a safe, non-invasive, and empowering path to healing for individuals dealing with issues like incontinence, chronic pelvic pain, prolapse, or postpartum recovery.

I practiced biofeedback therapy, including pelvic applications, for over five years in integrative medical settings. While I no longer offer biofeedback in my practice, I now focus solely on homeopathy — which I’ve found to offer even more effective and sustainable relief for clients experiencing chronic pelvic issues, pain, and dysfunction.

What Is Pelvic Floor Biofeedback Therapy?

Pelvic floor biofeedback is a therapeutic technique that helps individuals learn how to control and strengthen the muscles of the pelvic floor. These muscles support the bladder, bowel, and reproductive organs — and when they become too tight or too weak, they can cause significant issues.

This therapy uses small sensors placed externally or internally (depending on the concern and comfort level) to monitor muscle activity. The data is translated into visual or auditory cues, allowing patients to see or hear how their muscles are functioning in real time. This feedback helps patients learn how to relax or engage specific muscle groups more effectively.

Based on my clinical experience using pelvic biofeedback, this approach can help individuals gain awareness of muscular activity. Yet, over time, I witnessed even greater improvement when applying homeopathy — especially in cases rooted in emotional trauma, hormonal imbalance, or nervous system dysregulation.

How Biofeedback Helps Strengthen the Pelvic Floor

For many people, pelvic floor dysfunction is rooted in a lack of awareness — they don’t know how to control these deep, internal muscles. Biofeedback therapy for the pelvic floor teaches your body new muscle memory through direct, real-time feedback.

Through guided sessions, you’ll learn how to:

  • Improve coordination between muscle contraction and relaxation
  • Reduce involuntary spasms or tension
  • Increase muscle tone and endurance where needed
  • Build long-term confidence in pelvic control and function

Whether you’re dealing with leakage when sneezing or sitting discomfort from pelvic pain, this therapy can help reestablish strength and control without medication or surgery.

Conditions Treated with Pelvic Floor Biofeedback

Pelvic floor biofeedback has shown significant success in treating a wide range of conditions, including:

  • Urinary or fecal incontinence
  • Pelvic organ prolapse
  • Chronic pelvic pain
  • Painful intercourse (dyspareunia)
  • Constipation or incomplete emptying
  • Postpartum muscle recovery

Many patients who’ve tried medication or surgery with limited results find relief and empowerment through biofeedback-based pelvic floor therapy.

Pelvic Floor Therapy for Incontinence and Pain Management

Two of the most common and distressing symptoms of pelvic floor dysfunction are incontinence and chronic pelvic pain. Biofeedback therapy offers real, measurable progress in both areas.

Incontinence
By learning how to properly activate and strengthen pelvic muscles, individuals can regain bladder and bowel control. This can mean no longer worrying about sneezing, laughing, or exercising in public.

Pelvic Pain
When pelvic muscles are overactive or in chronic spasm, pain can radiate throughout the pelvis, abdomen, and lower back. Biofeedback helps patients retrain their muscles to relax, improving circulation, reducing inflammation, and offering drug-free pain relief.

What to Expect in a Biofeedback Session

While I no longer offer pelvic floor biofeedback therapy at my practice, I’ve facilitated this therapy in the past and want to provide a clear overview for those exploring their options. Here’s what individuals typically experience during a biofeedback session with a qualified practitioner, should they choose that route alongside or prior to homeopathic care.

Many people are hesitant to seek pelvic floor therapy out of uncertainty or embarrassment. At The Healing Narrative, we prioritize compassion, consent, and education in every session. Here’s what you can expect:

  1. Initial Assessment
We’ll discuss your symptoms, history, and goals. You’ll learn how pelvic floor muscles work and what biofeedback can offer.
  2. Sensor Placement
Depending on your comfort level and treatment goals, we use non-invasive surface sensors or internal sensors to detect muscle activity.
  3. Visual/Auditory Feedback
As you move or contract your muscles, you’ll see visual or hear audio cues indicating what your body is doing. This feedback helps guide you in real time.
  4. Therapist-Guided Training
You’ll be coached through a series of contractions, relaxations, and breathing exercises to enhance neuromuscular control.
  5. Ongoing Progress Tracking
Each session builds on the last, with visible improvements you can track. Most patients start seeing results in just a few sessions.

Why I Now Use Homeopathy to Treat Pelvic Floor Dysfunction

After years of practicing biofeedback therapy, I saw firsthand how important it is to address the whole person — not just muscle tension or physical symptoms. Many pelvic floor concerns are deeply intertwined with emotional trauma, anxiety, or hormonal shifts.

At The Healing Narrative, we work with individuals experiencing:

  • Stress incontinence
  • Pelvic organ prolapse
  • Pain or discomfort during intimacy
  • Postpartum pelvic challenges

Homeopathy works with the individual as a whole, including the mental-emotional landscape that often underlies chronic pelvic tension, pain, or incontinence. In my practice today, I support clients with a wide range of pelvic and nervous system concerns using this deeply personalized approach.

Frank Molignano, CCH, RSHom(NA), is a board-certified homeopath with over 15 years of experience helping people heal from trauma, chronic illness, and mental health challenges. He formerly practiced biofeedback and neurofeedback therapy for over five years, and while he no longer offers these treatments, he now focuses on homeopathy, which he finds offers deeper, lasting results.

Frank works with clients virtually across the U.S., especially in New Jersey, New York, California, and Colorado. When not in session, you’ll find him bouldering, paddle-boarding, or dancing.
